This page gives you the honest answer first: there is no official PDF Arranger package for macOS. The project publishes a Windows installer and portable ZIP and Linux builds, but it has never released a native Mac installer — there is no official Mac app package of any kind. Anything offered elsewhere as a ready-made Mac edition of PDF Arranger is not from the project, and we do not link to such files. The good news is that Mac users are not stuck: there are two real ways to run PDF Arranger itself, and one sensible native route if what you actually need goes beyond page arranging.

Why there is no Mac installer

PDF Arranger is a small open-source project (GPL-3.0, built with Python and GTK 3 on top of pikepdf) maintained by volunteers. Its official release page carries Windows and source assets only, and its own documentation for Mac users describes running the program from its dependencies rather than installing a packaged app. That is a packaging gap, not a verdict on the software — but it does mean you should be suspicious of any site that presents a one-click Mac download of PDF Arranger as official.

Option 1: Run it with Nix (the documented route)

The project’s own macOS documentation points Mac users to Nix, the cross-platform package manager, because nixpkgs carries PDF Arranger and resolves its GTK and Python dependencies for you. After installing Nix itself (follow the installer and instructions on the Nix website), you can run PDF Arranger without a permanent install with:

nix-shell -p pdfarranger --run pdfarranger

The first run downloads the package and its dependencies, so it takes a while; later runs start much faster. This is the route the project’s documentation recommends, and it gives you the genuine program — the same page merging, splitting, reordering, rotating, cropping and booklet tools as on Linux and Windows.

Option 2: Run from source with manual dependencies

Developers comfortable in the terminal can also install the dependencies themselves — GTK 3, PyGObject, Poppler and pikepdf among them — and run PDF Arranger from its source tree, as the project’s macOS notes describe. Expect this to be a hands-on route: you are assembling the runtime yourself, updates are manual, and troubleshooting is largely up to you. For most people, the Nix route above is the more maintainable version of the same idea.

Option 3: Use a native Mac app instead

Be honest about the job you need done. If you only need to merge, split and reorder pages occasionally, Nix above works fine. But if you want a native Mac application — and especially if your PDFs need more than page arranging, such as editing text, OCR on scans, or form filling, none of which PDF Arranger does on any platform — a native tool is simply the better fit.

For that, Mac users commonly land on PDF Expert, a native macOS PDF app that covers page organising plus the editing and OCR tasks PDF Arranger leaves out. You can visit it through our link: PDF Expert for Mac. Disclosure: that is a sponsored affiliate link — if you buy through it, this site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you; see our Affiliate Disclosure. Our broader round-up of options is on the PDF Arranger alternatives page.

The summary worth remembering

No official Mac package exists — do not trust sites presenting one as an official download.

Nix is the documented way to run the real PDF Arranger on a Mac:
nix-shell -p pdfarranger --run pdfarranger
.

Source with manual dependencies also works, and suits developers.

For a native app — or for editing, OCR and forms — look at the alternatives, including PDF Expert above.

On Windows or Linux instead? Official builds exist there; start from the install hub or download page linked below.

If you manage Windows software from the command line, you can install PDF Arranger with a single winget command. One fact first, because it shapes how much trust to place in the channel: the winget package is an unofficial, community-maintained package. It is not published by the PDF Arranger project — what it does is fetch and install the project’s official MSI installer for you. This guide shows the command, how to verify what got installed, and the manual alternative.

Step 1: Install with winget

Open Terminal, PowerShell or Command Prompt and run:

winget install PDFArranger.PDFArranger

winget resolves the package ID
PDFArranger.PDFArranger
, downloads the installer the package points to, and runs it. Follow any prompts the installer shows. On a current Windows PC the whole process usually takes a minute or two, most of it download time for the 63.3 MB MSI.

What you actually installed

Underneath the convenience, nothing exotic happened: the community package installs the official PDF Arranger MSI — the same 1.14.0 program you would get by downloading pdfarranger-1.14.0-windows-installer.msi yourself. If you want maximum certainty about the file, the manual route lets you verify the SHA-256 hash before installing: the official 1.14.0 installer hash is the one listed in our Windows install guide, and the check itself takes one certutil command. Treat winget as a convenience layer over that official installer, not as a separate edition of the software.

Before installing, you can also inspect what winget knows about the package with
winget show PDFArranger.PDFArranger
, which displays the version and installer details the community package currently points to. Checking that page is a good habit with any community package: it shows you the exact version you are about to receive, so you can compare it with the current 1.14.0 release before deciding whether to use winget or the manual download this time.

Step 2: Launch and verify

Open the Start menu, search for PDF Arranger, and launch it. Open a PDF, drag a page to a new spot, and export a copy with File > Save As. A correct export confirms the install. You can also confirm the program is registered the usual Windows way — it appears in Settings > Apps > Installed apps, because an MSI install is exactly what happened.

Updating and removing

Update:
winget upgrade PDFArranger.PDFArranger
upgrades it when the community package has a newer version;
winget upgrade --all
includes it with everything else.

Remove:
winget uninstall PDFArranger.PDFArranger
, or uninstall from Settings > Apps like any other program.

Version timing: because the package is community-maintained, a brand-new upstream release can take a little while to appear in winget. The manual download never has that delay.

Prefer clicking to commands?

Nothing about winget is required. If you would rather download and run the installer yourself — and verify its hash on the way — follow our Windows MSI install guide, or start from the download page. You end up with the same program either way.

The short version: winget is a handy way to install PDF Arranger, the package behind it is an unofficial community package, and the software it installs is the official MSI build. Keep those three facts together and you are using the channel exactly as intended.

Flatpak from Flathub is the Linux install route we recommend when you want the current release: the Flathub build of PDF Arranger is a verified official channel and is already in sync with upstream 1.14.0, the same version as the GitHub release. It also behaves identically on Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, Arch and most other distributions. This guide covers installing Flatpak support where needed, installing the app, launching it, and keeping it updated.

The app ID to know

On Flathub, PDF Arranger is published under the app ID com.github.jeromerobert.pdfarranger — the name dates back to the project’s early maintainer and is normal. You will use this ID in the install and run commands below, and you can check the listing any time on the Flathub website under that ID.

Step 1: Make sure Flatpak and Flathub are set up

Many distributions ship Flatpak by default — Fedora and Linux Mint among them — and some need it installed first (on Debian and Ubuntu, that is
sudo apt install flatpak
). If Flathub is not yet added as a remote, the install command in the next step references it by name, and your system may offer to add it automatically; distribution setup guides on the Flatpak website cover the one-time setup in detail.

Step 2: Install PDF Arranger from Flathub

flatpak install flathub com.github.jeromerobert.pdfarranger

Flatpak shows the download size and the runtime it needs — PDF Arranger uses the GNOME platform runtime for its GTK 3 interface — and asks for confirmation. The runtime is shared with other GNOME Flatpak apps, so it is only downloaded once even if several apps use it.

Step 3: Launch it

PDF Arranger appears in your application menu like any other app. From the terminal, the Flatpak run command is:

flatpak run com.github.jeromerobert.pdfarranger

Open a PDF and run a quick check: reorder a page, rotate another, and export with File > Save As. Reopen the exported file to confirm the changes saved correctly.

Step 4: Keep it updated

flatpak update

That single command updates every Flatpak app, including PDF Arranger, or you can update through GNOME Software or your distribution’s app store if it integrates Flatpak. Because Flathub tracks the upstream project, this is how most Linux users received 1.14.0 promptly after its May 23, 2026 release — unlike distribution repository packages, which can lag behind (see our Ubuntu, Fedora and Mint guides).

To confirm which version the Flatpak gave you, compare it with the upstream release: the app listing on Flathub shows the published version, and 1.14.0 is the current release this guide is written against. If a future release appears upstream, the Flathub build is typically updated by its maintainers shortly afterwards and delivered through the same flatpak update command — there is nothing new to download manually.

Good to know

Sandboxing: Flatpak apps run in a sandbox with controlled access to your files. PDF Arranger opens the documents you choose through the standard file picker; if a deeply nested folder ever seems out of reach, that sandbox boundary is the first thing to check.

Alongside a distro package: the Flatpak and a repository build can be installed at the same time — useful when comparing versions.

Removing:
flatpak uninstall com.github.jeromerobert.pdfarranger
removes the app; your PDFs are never stored inside the app.

No suitable package for your distro? The Flatpak is usually the answer — it is distribution-independent by design.

Linux Mint users can install PDF Arranger in a couple of clicks from the Software Manager, or with one apt command in the terminal. Both routes install the same repository package. This guide covers both, explains the version caveat that comes with repository packages, and shows the Flatpak route — which Mint supports out of the box — for getting the current 1.14.0 release.

Option 1: Software Manager (graphical)

Open Software Manager from the Mint menu.

Search for PDF Arranger.

Open its page and click Install, then enter your password when prompted.

When the install finishes, launch it from that same page or find PDF Arranger in your menu under the Office/graphics categories.

The Software Manager route is the friendliest if you avoid the terminal, and it handles all the dependencies — Python 3, GTK 3, Poppler and pikepdf — for you.

Option 2: Terminal (apt)

Mint is built on Ubuntu and Debian packaging, so the terminal route is the familiar apt command. Open a terminal and run:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install pdfarranger

The version caveat

Whichever of the two routes you used, you installed the version packaged for your Mint release — and repository versions may lag behind the upstream 1.14.0 release. Day-to-day page work is unaffected: merging, splitting, reordering, rotating and cropping have been in the program for years. What an older package may lack are the 1.14.0 refinements, such as single-page zoom fit, the A0, A1 and A2 paper sizes, rebuilt outlines on export, and swapping odd and even pages. To check your installed version, look at the package page in Software Manager or run
apt show pdfarranger
.

Option 3: Flatpak for the current 1.14.0

Mint comes with Flatpak support built in, and the Flathub build of PDF Arranger is verified and already in sync with 1.14.0. You can install it from Software Manager if Flathub is enabled as a source there, or from the terminal with the standard Flatpak commands. Our dedicated guide has the complete walkthrough, including updates:

Install PDF Arranger with Flatpak

Launch and verify

Start PDF Arranger from the menu, open any PDF, and try the core workflow: drag a page thumbnail to a new position, then use File > Save As to export a copy. If the copy opens with the new page order, your install is complete and working.

A slightly bigger first test is worth the two minutes it takes, because it exercises every library the program depends on. Open two PDFs at once by selecting both in the open dialog — PDF Arranger shows their pages in one window — move a page from the second document into the first, rotate one page, and export. Rendering, cross-document page moves and saving are the three things most likely to reveal a broken dependency, and on a normal Mint install all three simply work.

Common tips

Updates: the repository build updates through Mint’s Update Manager along with your other software.

Removing: uninstall from Software Manager, or run
sudo apt remove pdfarranger
. Your PDF files stay exactly where they are.

Two builds installed? A repository build and a Flatpak can coexist; their menu entries look similar, so check which one you launched if a feature seems missing.

On Arch Linux, PDF Arranger is available from the official package repositories, and because Arch is a rolling-release distribution its package tends to be among the freshest of any distro. Installation is a single pacman command. This guide covers the install, a quick verification, and the honest version note that applies to every repository package — plus the Flatpak alternative if your mirror is behind.

Step 1: Install with pacman

Update your package database and install PDF Arranger in one go:

sudo pacman -S pdfarranger

pacman will pull in the runtime pieces PDF Arranger is built on — Python 3 with GTK 3 bindings, Poppler and pikepdf among them — and ask for confirmation before installing. Approve, and the program is ready. If it has been a while since your last full system update, run
sudo pacman -Syu
first, as partial upgrades are not supported on Arch.

Versions on a rolling release

Arch packages track upstream releases closely, so the repository build is usually recent — but the version you receive is still whatever the Arch repositories currently carry, and mirrors update at their own pace. To see exactly what is installed, run:

pacman -Qi pdfarranger

If that reports 1.14.0, you have the current upstream release with its newest additions: single-page zoom fit, the A0, A1 and A2 paper sizes, rebuilt outlines on export, and odd/even page swapping. If it reports an older version, the everyday page tools — merge, split, reorder, rotate, crop and booklet generation — all work the same; you are only missing the newest refinements until the package updates.

What pacman installs is the complete working program, not a stub: the Python application itself, the pikepdf library that reads and writes the PDF structure, Poppler for rendering page previews, and the GTK 3 interface toolkit. That layering is worth knowing for troubleshooting — if the window opens but a PDF renders blank, the rendering layer is the suspect, while a failure to save points at the PDF-writing layer. In practice, a clean repository install on an up-to-date Arch system needs no further configuration at all: there is no licence key, no first-run wizard, and no background service.

Step 2: Launch and verify

Launch PDF Arranger from your application menu, or from the terminal:

pdfarranger

Open a PDF, select a few pages, duplicate one and delete another, then export with File > Save As and reopen the result. Quick experiments like that confirm rendering, editing and saving are all functional.

Updating and removing

Update: PDF Arranger updates with the rest of your system on
sudo pacman -Syu
.

Remove:
sudo pacman -R pdfarranger
removes the program while leaving its now-unneeded dependencies in place; add
-Rs
if you also want unused dependencies removed, and review the list before confirming.

AUR note: you do not need the AUR for the standard program — the repository package above is the straightforward route.

The Flatpak alternative

If your mirror lags, or you prefer sandboxed applications from Flathub, the verified Flatpak build is in sync with 1.14.0 and installs on Arch with the same commands as everywhere else.
Fedora packages PDF Arranger in its main repositories, so installation takes one dnf command and a minute of your time. This guide covers that install, how to launch and verify the program, and the one thing to know before you start: the repository version follows Fedora’s packaging cycle, which may not be the current upstream 1.14.0 — and there is a Flatpak route for that case.

Step 1: Install with dnf

Open a terminal and run:

sudo dnf install pdfarranger

dnf will resolve PDF Arranger together with the libraries it is built on — Python 3, GTK 3, Poppler and pikepdf — and ask you to confirm the transaction. Approve it and wait for the install to finish. No third-party repository or manual download is involved.

A note on versions

Fedora usually tracks upstream open-source releases fairly closely, but the packaged build is still a snapshot: the version in the Fedora repositories may lag behind 1.14.0, depending on your Fedora release. Check the packaged version any time with:

dnf info pdfarranger

The core page tools — merge, split, reorder, rotate, crop, page size and metadata editing — are present in recent packaged builds. The newest 1.14.0 additions, such as single-page zoom fit, the A0, A1 and A2 sizes in the page dialogs, rebuilding outlines on export, and swapping odd and even pages, only appear once your Fedora release carries 1.14.0. If those matter to you today, use the Flatpak described below.

Prefer a graphical install?

The same Fedora package is also listed in GNOME Software: search for PDF Arranger there and install it with a click. Both routes install the identical repository build and both are maintained by Fedora’s normal update system afterwards — the dnf command is shown here because it is unambiguous, scriptable, and makes the package name and version easy to confirm in a terminal afterwards. Choose whichever style you are more comfortable with; there is no difference in the program you receive.

One practical note before the first launch: PDF Arranger works on local files only and needs no account or activation. The first time you open a large PDF, rendering every page thumbnail can take a few seconds on slower hardware — that is Poppler building the previews, not a problem with the install.

Step 2: Launch and verify

Find PDF Arranger in the Activities overview, or start it from the terminal:

pdfarranger

Open a multipage PDF, drag a page to a different position, rotate another page, and export the result with File > Save As. Open the exported file and check the new order — that confirms the install, the rendering library and the save path are all working.

Updating and removing

Update: repository builds update with your system via
sudo dnf upgrade
or GNOME Software, up to the version your Fedora release provides.

Remove:
sudo dnf remove pdfarranger
takes the program off again; your documents are never touched.

Flatpak alongside: the Flathub build can coexist with the dnf build, which makes comparing versions easy.

Want the current 1.14.0 instead?

The Flathub Flatpak is a verified, official distribution channel for PDF Arranger and is already in sync with 1.14.0, including on Fedora — Fedora ships with Flatpak support, and Flathub can be added as the application source. Follow our step-by-step Flatpak install guide for the exact commands.

Ubuntu users have two good routes to PDF Arranger: the Ubuntu software repositories, which are the fastest option, and Flatpak from Flathub, which is the route to the current 1.14.0 release. This guide covers the repository install first, explains the one caveat that comes with it — the packaged version — and then points you to Flatpak if you want the latest upstream version.

Option 1: Install from the Ubuntu repositories

PDF Arranger is packaged in the Ubuntu repositories, so a single command installs it together with its Python, GTK 3, Poppler and pikepdf dependencies. Open a terminal and run:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install pdfarranger

Enter your password when asked and confirm the package list. That is the whole installation — there is no separate download and no extra repository to add for the standard packaged build.

Prefer a graphical route? Ubuntu Software (or the App Center on newer Ubuntu releases) carries the same repository package: search for PDF Arranger there and click Install. You end up with exactly the same build the apt command installs, managed by the same system updater afterwards. The terminal route is simply faster to describe and easier to troubleshoot, which is why it is the primary method in this guide.

The version caveat, stated plainly

Repository packages are snapshots taken when an Ubuntu release was prepared, so the version in the Ubuntu repositories may lag behind the upstream 1.14.0 release, and how far behind depends on which Ubuntu version you run. For merging, splitting, reordering and rotating pages the packaged build does the job perfectly well. But if a guide or release note mentions a 1.14.0 behaviour — single-page zoom fit, the extra A0, A1 and A2 paper sizes, rebuilding outlines on export, or swapping odd and even pages — and you cannot find it, an older repository version is the most likely reason. Check what you have with:

apt show pdfarranger

Option 2: Get 1.14.0 from Flathub

If you want the current release, install the Flatpak instead. The Flathub build is verified and is already in sync with 1.14.0. Our dedicated guide walks through the whole process: see Install PDF Arranger with Flatpak. You can also keep the repository build and the Flatpak side by side while you compare them.

Launch and verify

After installing, find PDF Arranger in the Activities overview or applications grid, or start it from the terminal:

pdfarranger

Open a PDF and confirm the page thumbnails load, then try a small test: drag one page to a new position and export the file with File > Save As. If the exported PDF opens with the pages in the new order, everything is working.

Common tips

Updating the repository build: it updates together with the rest of your system through Software Updater or
sudo apt upgrade
— but only up to the version your Ubuntu release carries.

Removing it:
sudo apt remove pdfarranger
uninstalls the repository build; your PDF files are unaffected.

Image import: importing images as PDF pages uses the optional img2pdf tool; if image import is missing, that helper is the first thing to check.

On Linux Mint or Debian? Mint has its own short guide on this site; the apt command above is the same starting point there.

The portable build of PDF Arranger 1.14.0 is a ZIP archive that runs without a setup wizard: extract it, double-click the program file, and start arranging pages. It is the right choice if you do not have permission to install software on a PC, if you want to carry the tool on a USB stick, or if you simply prefer software that stays inside a single folder. This guide covers downloading and verifying the ZIP, extracting it correctly, and keeping it up to date.

Step 1: Download the portable ZIP

Get the file from our download page or from the 1.14.0 release on GitHub Releases. The portable file is named pdfarranger-1.14.0-windows-portable.zip and is 60.9 MB — slightly smaller than the 63.3 MB MSI installer, but it contains the same PDF Arranger 1.14.0 for 64-bit Windows.

Step 2: Verify the SHA-256 hash

A quick hash check confirms the archive arrived intact. In Command Prompt, in the folder where you saved the ZIP, run:

certutil -hashfile pdfarranger-1.14.0-windows-portable.zip SHA256

The result must match the SHA-256 published with the official 1.14.0 release:

71bb8c7d3e9bd1713424ec546681f4cf4d50961020607e1c154ade67ea532615

If it does not match, delete the file and download it again before extracting anything.

Step 3: Extract the whole archive

Right-click the ZIP in File Explorer and choose Extract All, then pick a destination folder you can write to — for example a folder on your desktop, in Documents, or on a USB drive.

Wait for extraction to finish completely. The archive holds well over a thousand library files, and the program will not start from a half-extracted folder.

Open the extracted pdf arranger-1.14.0 folder. The program file is pdfarranger.exe, right at the top level of that folder.

Double-click pdfarranger.exe to run it. Do not move the .exe out of the folder on its own — it needs the neighbouring
lib
and
share
folders to start.

You can create a desktop shortcut to pdfarranger.exe if you use it often; just leave the original file where it is inside its folder.

Portable vs. MSI: what is different?

Installation: the MSI runs a setup wizard and registers the program with Windows; the portable build has no installer at all.

System footprint: as with portable software in general, the ZIP build keeps everything in its own folder instead of adding the usual installer entries, which is why it works well from a USB stick and on PCs where you cannot install programs.

Uninstalling: there is nothing to uninstall — delete the extracted folder and the program is gone. Your PDF files are never stored inside the program folder, so deleting it does not touch your documents.

Features: identical. Both builds are PDF Arranger 1.14.0 with the same merge, split, reorder, rotate, crop, booklet and metadata tools.

Updating the portable build

Portable builds do not update themselves. When a new version is released, download the new portable ZIP, extract it to a fresh folder, and start using the new pdfarranger.exe. Keep the old folder until you have confirmed the new one runs, then delete it. Because your settings and documents live outside the program folder, swapping folders is all an update takes.

Common tips

Program does not start: almost always an incomplete extraction — delete the folder, extract again, and make sure your archiver did not skip files.

On a USB stick: extract to the stick once and run it from there on any 64-bit Windows PC; the first start from a slow stick can take a few seconds.

Prefer a Start menu entry and file associations? That is what the MSI installer is for — see the Windows install guide.

PDF Arranger 1.14.0 ships with an official Windows installer published on GitHub Releases, and the MSI package is the simplest way to install it on a 64-bit Windows PC. This guide walks through the full process: where to get the installer, how to verify the file before you run it, what the setup wizard asks, and how to launch the app for the first time. If you would rather not install anything system-wide, the portable ZIP covered in our portable guide is the alternative.

Step 1: Download the MSI installer

Start from our download page or open the 1.14.0 release on GitHub Releases directly. The file you need is named pdfarranger-1.14.0-windows-installer.msi and it is 63.3 MB. Make sure the filename ends in
-windows-installer.msi
and not
-windows-portable.zip
— the ZIP is the portable build, which does not use a setup wizard. Save the file somewhere easy to find, such as your Downloads folder.

Step 2: Verify the SHA-256 hash (recommended)

Before running any installer downloaded from the internet, it is worth spending thirty seconds checking that the file is complete and unchanged. Open Command Prompt in the folder where you saved the MSI, then run:

certutil -hashfile pdfarranger-1.14.0-windows-installer.msi SHA256

The command prints the SHA-256 hash of your file. For the official 1.14.0 installer it must match this value exactly:

33ba1c3028cc81eb364b8eed288389fc8a4869c015ce817b9408a3d31e0e90b0

If the two strings match character for character, your download is the file published with the 1.14.0 release. If they differ, delete the file and download it again — a mismatch usually means an incomplete or corrupted download.

Step 3: Run the setup wizard

Double-click pdfarranger-1.14.0-windows-installer.msi to start the setup wizard.

Step through the wizard pages, read the GPL-3.0 licence if you wish, and keep the default install location unless you have a reason to change it.

Confirm the installation and wait while the files are copied — on most PCs this takes well under a minute.

Finish the wizard. PDF Arranger is now registered like any normal Windows program, so it can be uninstalled later from Settings > Apps.

Step 4: Launch and check the install

Open the Start menu, type PDF Arranger, and launch the app. An empty window with an open-file prompt means the install worked. To test it properly, open any PDF: you should see thumbnail previews of every page, and you can try dragging a page to a new position, rotating it, and exporting the result with File > Save As. That round trip — open, rearrange, save — is exactly what PDF Arranger is built for: merging, splitting, reordering, rotating and cropping pages.

Common tips

No admin project folder needed: PDF Arranger works entirely offline on local files, so you can test it on copies of your documents first.

Prefer no installation? Use the portable ZIP instead — it runs from an extracted folder and does not use the setup wizard.

Updating: when a newer release appears, download the new MSI and run it; keeping the version current also keeps the bundled pikepdf and Poppler libraries current.

Command-line install on several PCs: see our winget guide — winget installs this same official MSI through an unofficial community package.
