How to Install PDF Arranger on Fedora

Fedora packages PDF Arranger in its main repositories, so installation takes one dnf command and a minute of your time. This guide covers that install, how to launch and verify the program, and the one thing to know before you start: the repository version follows Fedora’s packaging cycle, which may not be the current upstream 1.14.0 — and there is a Flatpak route for that case.

Step 1: Install with dnf

Open a terminal and run:

sudo dnf install pdfarranger

dnf will resolve PDF Arranger together with the libraries it is built on — Python 3, GTK 3, Poppler and pikepdf — and ask you to confirm the transaction. Approve it and wait for the install to finish. No third-party repository or manual download is involved.

A note on versions

Fedora usually tracks upstream open-source releases fairly closely, but the packaged build is still a snapshot: the version in the Fedora repositories may lag behind 1.14.0, depending on your Fedora release. Check the packaged version any time with:

dnf info pdfarranger

The core page tools — merge, split, reorder, rotate, crop, page size and metadata editing — are present in recent packaged builds. The newest 1.14.0 additions, such as single-page zoom fit, the A0, A1 and A2 sizes in the page dialogs, rebuilding outlines on export, and swapping odd and even pages, only appear once your Fedora release carries 1.14.0. If those matter to you today, use the Flatpak described below.

Prefer a graphical install?

The same Fedora package is also listed in GNOME Software: search for PDF Arranger there and install it with a click. Both routes install the identical repository build and both are maintained by Fedora’s normal update system afterwards — the dnf command is shown here because it is unambiguous, scriptable, and makes the package name and version easy to confirm in a terminal afterwards. Choose whichever style you are more comfortable with; there is no difference in the program you receive.

One practical note before the first launch: PDF Arranger works on local files only and needs no account or activation. The first time you open a large PDF, rendering every page thumbnail can take a few seconds on slower hardware — that is Poppler building the previews, not a problem with the install.

Step 2: Launch and verify

Find PDF Arranger in the Activities overview, or start it from the terminal:

pdfarranger

Open a multipage PDF, drag a page to a different position, rotate another page, and export the result with File > Save As. Open the exported file and check the new order — that confirms the install, the rendering library and the save path are all working.

Updating and removing

  • Update: repository builds update with your system via sudo dnf upgrade or GNOME Software, up to the version your Fedora release provides.
  • Remove: sudo dnf remove pdfarranger takes the program off again; your documents are never touched.
  • Flatpak alongside: the Flathub build can coexist with the dnf build, which makes comparing versions easy.

Want the current 1.14.0 instead?

The Flathub Flatpak is a verified, official distribution channel for PDF Arranger and is already in sync with 1.14.0, including on Fedora — Fedora ships with Flatpak support, and Flathub can be added as the application source. Follow our step-by-step Flatpak install guide for the exact commands.
