PDF Arranger FAQ
Straight answers about PDF Arranger 1.14.0: what it costs, where the official downloads live, what it can and cannot do, and how it handles password-protected files. Every answer below follows the project’s official documentation and release data.
Is PDF Arranger free?
Yes. PDF Arranger is free and open-source software released under the GPL-3.0-or-later license. You can download and use it without paying for a license or subscription, including for commercial work under the terms of the GPL.
Is there an official Windows version of PDF Arranger?
Yes. Since version 1.6.0 in 2020, the official GitHub releases have included a Windows MSI installer and a portable ZIP. For the current version 1.14.0, the files are pdfarranger-1.14.0-windows-installer.msi and pdfarranger-1.14.0-windows-portable.zip.
What are the file sizes and SHA-256 hashes for version 1.14.0?
The 1.14.0 MSI installer is 63,311,360 bytes (63.3 MB) with SHA-256 33ba1c3028cc81eb364b8eed288389fc8a4869c015ce817b9408a3d31e0e90b0. The portable ZIP is 60,947,990 bytes (60.9 MB) with SHA-256 71bb8c7d3e9bd1713424ec546681f4cf4d50961020607e1c154ade67ea532615. Both values come from the official GitHub release metadata.
Can I run PDF Arranger on a Mac?
There is no official macOS installer: no .dmg or .pkg is published. The official documentation offers a Nix path (running nix-shell -p pdfarranger –run pdfarranger) or running from source with the GTK 3 dependencies installed. Mac users who need a native app should see our Mac guide and the alternatives page.
What can PDF Arranger do?
PDF Arranger is a page organizer. It can merge multiple PDFs into one, split a PDF into parts, reorder pages by drag and drop, rotate and crop pages, delete and duplicate pages, insert blank pages, resize page size, create booklet layouts, edit document metadata, import images as pages, and export pages as PDF, PNG or JPEG files.
Can PDF Arranger edit the text inside a PDF?
No. PDF Arranger works at page level only and cannot edit the text or images inside a page. If you need to change the wording of a document, you need a full PDF editor such as Adobe Acrobat or PDFelement. Our alternatives page explains the options.
Can PDF Arranger OCR a scanned document?
No. PDF Arranger has no OCR engine, so scanned pages remain images and cannot be turned into searchable or editable text. Tools that include OCR, such as Adobe Acrobat, PDFelement and Stirling-PDF, are covered on our alternatives page.
Can I fill in forms or sign a PDF with PDF Arranger?
No. PDF Arranger does not fill or create PDF forms and has no electronic or digital signature feature. You can still merge, reorder, rotate or crop the pages of a form document at page level.
Can PDF Arranger compress a PDF to make the file smaller?
No. PDF Arranger has no compress or optimize feature. Exporting a rasterized PDF may change the file size, but that is not a compression feature and we do not present it as one.
Can PDF Arranger open a password-protected PDF?
Yes, if you know the password. Enter it when you open the file, then work on the pages normally. When you export, you can also set a password to encrypt the new file, using AES-256 level encryption (revision 6). Saving an opened file without setting a password produces a copy with no password.
Can PDF Arranger crack or remove an unknown password?
No. PDF Arranger cannot crack, recover or bypass an unknown password, and it does not bypass owner permissions that restrict printing or copying. You must know the password to open a protected file.
Does PDF Arranger upload my files to the internet?
No. PDF Arranger is a desktop application that runs entirely offline on your computer. It has no account system and no cloud service, and your documents are never uploaded. The separate online tool on this site also processes files locally inside your browser.
Is PDF Arranger safe to use?
PDF Arranger is open source under the GPL, so its code is public and inspectable, and it processes files locally without uploads. Download it only from official channels — the GitHub releases on Windows, or Flathub and your distribution repository on Linux — and verify the SHA-256 hash of the Windows file against the values on our download page.
What is the relationship between PDF Arranger and PDF-Shuffler?
PDF Arranger is a fork of PDF-Shuffler, originally created by Konstantinos Poulios. It continues the same idea — a small graphical tool for merging, splitting and rearranging PDF pages — as an actively maintained application built on pikepdf.
Is the winget package for PDF Arranger official?
No. The winget package PDFArranger.PDFArranger is community-maintained and unofficial, as the project Wiki states. It installs the official Windows MSI from GitHub, but the package itself is not published by the PDF Arranger developers.
